May 2016 Adventure - Part One

My goal is to finish recapping our California / Vancouver adventure by the end of the weekend! These upcoming posts are long overdue. I can't start blogging about Hawaii until this gets taken care of, haha.

Sean, Jenn, and I like going to the airport a few hours early that way we can unwind and not be stressed before boarding. We normally eat at Chili's before we depart for vacation. Chili's is closed now at the airport, so we decided to eat at Silver Gulch. I had no idea their pizza was so good! After dinner we hung out at the Alaska Airlines Boardroom for a few hours. We hopped on the plane and headed to Seattle. In Seattle we met up with Boom and Bella and got on the same plane to head to San Diego.

We got to San Diego at around 9:30 am. We picked up our luggage and our rental car and headed to lunch. In-N-Out is almost always our first place to eat at on west coast vacations! Everyone goes crazy for "animal style" everything, but I prefer just ordering off their regular menu. After lunch we went to the Premium Outlet Mall in Carlsbad. After the mall we went to check in at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel. I still feel so lucky that we were able to book a one bedroom for 4 nights! It's hard to get a reservation there with Disney Vacation Club because there are only 48 villas. We went to Target to pick up various groceries and stocked up on water bottles.

Sean and I enjoyed a romantic dinner at Napa Rose. The night ended early because we needed sleep so we could wake up early for our first day at Disneyland!

Woohoo, our first day at Disneyland! We woke up early and enjoyed a character breakfast at the Plaza Inn. It was so heartwarming to see my niece so excited to see all the characters. After breakfast we hit the rides... We did Jungle Cruise, Haunted Mansion, Winnie the Pooh, Mark Twain Riverboat, Big Thunder Mountain, and then we went back to the hotel room and took a nap. We went back to the park and had dinner at Carnation Cafe. I absolutely love the fried chicken there! They say it was one of Walt's favorite dishes there. We rode on It's A Small World and then watched the Paint The Night Parade. I thought it was a permanent parade, but it was only there for the 60th celebration. I love the parade so much, and now "When can we do this again?" is stuck in my head. After the parade our last attraction was the Enchanted Tiki Room.

Today's agenda was Disney's California Adventure! The Grand Californian has a special entrance that leads directly into the park. It's one of my favorite perks of staying there. We ate breakfast at Flo's V-8 Cafe. Then we did a few rides - Mater's Junkyard Jamboree, Luigi's Rollickin' Roadsters, Heimlich's Chew Chew Train, and then had lunch at Carthay Circle Restaurant. It was our first time there! It was so beautifully elegant and the food was delicious too! We ate so much food that we needed a mid-day nap, LOL. After our nap we rode on Radiator Springs Racers, checked out the Sorcerer's Workshop, and then ate dinner at my favorite quick service joint - Lucky Fortunate Cookery. We ended the evening watching a spectacular show of World of Color. I can't help but cry a few happy tears when I see that show.

Sean, Boom, Bella, and I went to Universal Studios! I really wanted to see California's version of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter since we had just seen Florida's version last fall. Sean and I ate lunch at Mel's Diner, checked out Super Silly Fun Land, and then went on the world's famous Studio Tour. The Studio Tour is my ABSOLUTE favorite attraction at Universal Studios, and to me it's the reason why Orlando's Universal Studios will never compare! After the Studio Tour we went to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and I of course enjoyed a Butterbeer. Mmm, mmm, mmm. We watched the Animal Actors show and then we were ready to go. I like Universal Studios, but it's one of those theme parks I can just go to every other year and feel like I'm not missing anything.

We met up with one of Boom's good friends and had Korean BBQ at MooDaePo II and then also had shaved ice at Sul & Beans in Koreatown. Both were so good!

We started our last day at Disney's California Adventure. At the request of our niece we rode on Ariel's Undersea Adventure 2 times, rode on Toy Story Mania, and then ate lunch at the Cove Bar. It was my first time trying their famous Lobster Nachos, and OMG - I was missing out. After lunch we rode on Monster's, Inc Mike & Sully to the Rescue. Then we crossed over to Disneyland. We went to Toon Town and rode on Roger Rabbit, walked through the Sleeping Beauty Castle, went to the Star Wars Launch Bay, and our last ride at the park was none other than the Pirates of the Caribbean. We shopped at World of Disney and then headed out to Temecula.

We went to Pechanga with my auntie and uncle. It's tradition to eat at the buffet there! I refrained from gambling because I wanted to save money for the rest of our trip. We ended our evening and spent the night at their place.
